Paraskoveyevka Special Boarding School
Environmental and Cultural Center "Bakhmat"

Special Boarding School for mentally disabled children is located in Paraskoveyevka village, 5 kilometres away from Artemovsk, Donetsk region. There are 154 children in the boarding school aged 8-16 years old, among them 15 orphans. Most children are coming rural area, from families with very poor background and alcohol problems, from the street, with parents declined their parent rights. Most of them don’t have any mental disability, but difficulties with learning, and slow physiological and psychical development. On the territory of the boarding school there’s orchard and vegetable garden, mostly cultivated by children, with support and advise of teachers. Total territory of the boarding school is 5,4 hectares. In the school they get basic skills of writing, reading and calculating; also they have sport classes. Additionally to this, they learn professions of carpenter or tailor and seamstress during labor classes, which take 80% of educational program at school.

SVIT is cooperating with the School for several years, organizing short-term volunteer projects and volunteer activities with children. Now PMT members are developing a long-term project to organize agricultural training and improve social and domestic adaptation of children.
