One World Association (OWA) is a non-governmental organization, which carries the mission of promoting peace and mutual understanding by means of international and national voluntary programmes and education.
Our mission is to promote peace and understanding among people through international and local voluntary service and education.
By "opening" one person for another we want to raise social awareness and by that create one world, without separating the better from the worse.
The Association was established in 1992, registered officially in District Court in Poznań in 1994. From the very beginning "One World" Association acts as a part of the international organization Service Civil International (SCI).
We realize our mission by:
- international short-term (workcamps) and long-term voluntary programmes;
- educational programme "Różni-Równi" ("The Different-The Equal") which includes lessons at schools and topic campaigns;
- workshops and seminars;
- promoting non-profit help for others.
Voluntary work is not only offering oneself for others. It is also realizing one's goals, developing one's skills, meeting people who live different way, have different needs and different problems.
By offering help, by working together, by showing understanding and by mutual learning, one can enter true friendship in the same town as well as in different continent.
A smile, joy, a good word are the best prize for volunteer's work.
Every person sharing our ideas can become a member of The Association. At present there are about 500 members (commons and supporters). We call all of them "volunteers".
According to The Association's aims volunteers perform various functions by working for several social groups
(disabled, refugees, people in difficult life situations).
In 2004, One World Association was awarded
SERGIO VIEIRA DE MELLO PRIZE.
