Human Rights on bicycles

In the period of 26th – 29th July 2007, the Association of International Volunteering from Moldova, in the frame of Youth Transcending New Frontiers, is organizing the “Human Rights on bicycles” activity. During 3 days, a group of 13 volunteers are going to ride to Sarata Galbena , Mereseni and Caracui. They are going to organize there Human Rights Seminars. Via a bicycle “convoy” they will distribute announcements about the seminars and lot of leaflets about the meaning of human rights. The target group of the seminars will be children aged between 16-18th years old.

The aim of the work camp is to provide human rights understanding and the necessity of respecting them in three locations simultaneously, through direct contact with the villagers.

If you are a habitant of one of the villages mentioned above, if you are between 16-18 years old, and if you are eager to find out more about your rights, contact the Local Public Authorities from your home-village in order to get details about the seminars (place, time, etc.).

As a part of the national week of voluntary work, on Thursday, 26th April 2007, a group of AVI volunteers went to the refugee charity center from Chisinau, Buiucani district, to do a work shop on Moldovan culture and cultural differences. The volunteers running the workshop were: Cezar Cernei, Alina Secrieru, Carolina Secrieru and Daniel Nylin Nilsson. Every Thursday in the charity center is dedicated to the presentation of national cultures. Often this will be the culture of the refugees home countries, but on this day AVI volunteers took on the task to present Moldovan culture. First the volunteers visited the management of the center, and were informed about the center’s work and the situation of refugees in Moldova in general. Details...

On 27th April, at 14.30, YTNF volunteers from AVI-Moldova, forgathered in the Central Park of Chisinau. There is a fountain in the middle of the park where people usually sit on the sides, lots of alleys where people go for walk or stop and take a seat on the benches. In the middle of this wonderful atmosphere, YTNF Moldova volunteers organized a Free Hugs event. At the beginning we splat in small teams, consisting of 2-3 persons. Wearing our “YTNF” tee-shirts, we took our “Free hugs posters” and started our “Free Hugs campaign”. There were many people very likely to receive hugs : ). The quaintest occurrence was when two police officers approached and asked what political party we represent. Details...
