Prep-meeting on Human Rights Traveller

Kharkiv, July 20

This nice sunny day Jasmin and Galyna met in Kharkiv to discuss details of coming Human Rights Traveller workcamp. As for now we have not that much experience in organisation of camps of such a type, it is important to think about all the points beforehand, to make activity as fruitful as possible.

First days of camp will be concentrated on preparation and work on materials, so it will be good to arrange meeting with representatives of local organisations which deal with human rights. Also, there popped an idea to make a presentation of international organisations, e.g. Amnesty International, HR-UN-Tribunal. Then volunteers will have an opportunity to evaluate, what kind of problems in human rights context is global, and which problems are regional and local. We hope that acquaintance with activities of various organisations will facilitate choosing concrete topic for HR training. Additionally following alternative themes for workshops were invented:

  • Rights of prisoners
  • Rights of youth
  • Rights of disabled people – stereotypes, realities and opportunities
  • Rights of minorities
  • Human rights and terrorism
  • Practical actions on human rights
  • Human rights and sustainable development
  • Human rights and army
  • Comparison political rights in various countries
  • Evolution and history of human rights

Other ideas were:

  • To design logo or HR-Traveller and use it on T-shirts, booklets, manuals, stickers and other stuff that will be created during future work
  • As practical action – to write letters to some important person. It may be letter from each participant or one letter with signatures of all interested people.
  • To organise children’s day (educational activities with children, games)
  • Human rights street performances
  • To develop games, focused on HR (role games, board game)

Also we thought about few “idea generation” and workshop conducting methods, but to approve and test them we decided to wait for other members of our PMT.

So, more about preparation we’ll speak on our next PMT meeting! Coming soon…
