Dobre razom is keeping on discovering features of local culture. Today is the second day of work in a school, and it is so interesting to see kidz expressing their attitude to foreign people and countries. Communicating with them, it is very obious to see how stereotypes are formed and how do they transform into xenophobia later. Details...

It's been a week since the Dobre Razom project has started in Kyiv. During that time we had a great training on antiracism giving us some tips and cool methods of teaching at our schools. Sadly we had to separate after that and continue our journeys in two different cities to discover special things about this world and ourselves. So that's what we're doing now. Today is September the 1st, Knoledge Day in Ukraine and the Kharkiv team had a chance to participate in the celebration and meet the kids we're going to work with. And we even got flowers just for being there:) On Monday the school starts. Details...

August 3-20, 2007 prepared by Natalie Dorosh and Victoria Kopchak In order to describe the sequence of the work camp it is necessary to pay attention to the determined elements of every short-term volunteer project, i.e. work, study, rest, evaluation and follow-up parts as well as to give a grasp of the group dynamics and peculiarities of conducting workshops in different camps. Work: The work elements of the Human Rights Traveler (HRT) consisted of two parts: creating a workshop plan and dividing responsibilities and conducting workshops at other work camps. During the preparation stage which took place during 2 days in Artemovsk volunteers chose the theme of the workshop, determined its aim and objectives and developed the workshop plan. Details...

During the week-end of July 28-29 some people came to Svyatogorsk not for pilgrimage at the monastery or walks in the forests, or swim in the river – but for a seminar. After lunch we occupied a pavilion at a children’s playground to discuss the YTNF project, practical aspects of international volunteer workcamps, which start in some days or some weeks, preparation to Euridea festival, project on Creation of Coordinating Centers on Volunteering, international festival “Discover, join and act!” and other issues. The program was compiled together at the beginning of the meeting, and we went through it, taking as much time as needed for discussions, questions and clarifications. Details...

This is the time for SVIT to pack backpacks - August is the month to pick fruits of almost a year of preparation work for our volunteer projects. This year we worked hard to organize diverse projects on different topics: environment and work with disabled children, anti-racism, gender and human rights education. We worked with our local partners to plan and set-up the projects, evaluated past experiences, organized trainings for our members, discussed programs and activities, wrote hundreds of emails and made as many phone calls. Was the catchy title Donetsk, “Lesnaya polyana” hotel, May 19-20 – place and date 22 young, fresh from overnight travel participants, including the prep-team who slept 2 hours to prepare the program This is what we have started with. We ended with creating great group atmosphere, where people felt safe and comfortable, focused for learning, open to different games, simulations and exercises. We covered all the topics planned, discussed future steps and got a lot of energy, ideas and inspiration to continue with volunteer work and international volunteer projects. We got new leaders enthusiastic about volunteer projects, willing to co-organize and contribute to them. Details...

There's no doubt that the Peer Education seminar that took place in Ulan-Ude in the beggining of May was really good. We [the participants] received a lot of useable and useful information on peer education methods and tested some of them ourselves:) What I really liked was that we got the knowledge and I dare say skills to work with peers that we'll be able use in very close future. This slogan on a presentation made me ask myself, why – this phrase means “Little ducks - time to start”. Antonina, who was the creator of this presentation, simply answered – to draw attention. Our seminar definitely drew attention. The title may be not so creative, “Volunteering and volunteer projects”, but on our call we received over 30 applications and numerous calls and requests after the deadline was due. Details...

On the 1st – 7th of March 2007 I was a participant of Group Leadership Training, which took place in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova and was organized by AVI-Moldova. During this training I've got new theoretical information about leadership, motivation, team building, communication, conflict management and practical skills how to do presentations, to communicate with different people and to develop own leadership qualities. As for me all of workshops were organized in a good way, they combined lectures, brain storms, discussions and practical work in small and big groups. These groups were different every time, so it was possible to know all participants better and to improve our communication skills. Details...
