GENERAL OVERVIEW:
Project to take place in Minsk, organized by New Group in Belarus with support of SCI Germany.
MAIN AIM:
To learn more about social exclusion, ways of social inclusion or reintegration and act practically in Minsk
THEORETIC PART:
- Discuss and compare reasons for social exclusion (poverty, drug addiction, disable reasons, ethnic and religious reasons…
- Discuss and compare the situation in participant’s countries
Talk about ways to help socially excluded people; differentiate short term and long term solutions (supporting self-help
- Discuss whether social reintegration measures should be done by the stategovernment, or by NGOs or …
- Discuss ways how to give socially excluded people a voice (let them be them but part of the society) (lobbies, newspapers, parties)
- Preparation of the mini-seminar for “disabled people by eyes” on the topic “integration of disabled people in society”
PRACTICAL PART
- Reach socially excluded people, talk with them and invite them for the dinner
- Learn directly about social exclusion in Belarus
- To make seminar with “disabled people by eyes” in Minsk
- Help socially excluded people form groups to gain strength and voice
SALIENT FEATURE OF THE PROJECT:
Combination of theoretic work and exchange of ideas with direct practical work
with people at the place
PARTICIPANTS:
should have knowledge of:
- reasons for social exclusion in their home countries
- situation of socially excluded people in their home countries
- ways of social reintegration that are used in their home countries (by the government, by NGOs)
Interested volunteers should contact their national organization in their own country for application form
Work will hopefully commence in January 2007 to establish two new Coordinating Centres for the Promotion of Long-Term Volunteering(LTV) in Ukraine & Moldova under the aegis of SVIT and AVI. The main aim of the new Centres is to facilitate the creation of up to ten new volunteer posts for foreign volunteers in Moldova and Ukraine by the end of 2008, as well as to train a pool of multiipliers in each country who will be responsible for implementing future LTV programs, also involving young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
