PMT meeting in Svyatogorsk - or is it worth to walk 20 minutes for a 10 minutes swim?

During the week-end of July 28-29 some people came to Svyatogorsk not for pilgrimage at the monastery or walks in the forests, or swim in the river – but for a seminar. After lunch we occupied a pavilion at a children’s playground to discuss the YTNF project, practical aspects of international volunteer workcamps, which start in some days or some weeks, preparation to Euridea festival, project on Creation of Coordinating Centers on Volunteering, international festival “Discover, join and act!” and other issues. The program was compiled together at the beginning of the meeting, and we went through it, taking as much time as needed for discussions, questions and clarifications. We also had time for melted chocolate, night walk to the monastery and enjoying the moon above the hills on the river, photographs at the mighty 600 years old oak-tree and short swims in the river. We did transcend some frontiers as well – getting over the closed gate, and hopefully also in our minds – for future YTNF work.

This year we worked hard to organize diverse projects on different topics: environment and work with disabled children, anti-racism, gender and human rights education. We worked with our local partners to plan and set-up the projects, evaluated past experiences, organized trainings for our members, discussed programs and activities, wrote hundreds of emails and made as many phone calls. Was the catchy title Donetsk, “Lesnaya polyana” hotel, May 19-20 – place and date 22 young, fresh from overnight travel participants, including the prep-team who slept 2 hours to prepare the program This is what we have started with. We ended with creating great group atmosphere, where people felt safe and comfortable, focused for learning, open to different games, simulations and exercises. We covered all the topics planned, discussed future steps and got a lot of energy, ideas and inspiration to continue with volunteer work and international volunteer projects. We got new leaders enthusiastic about volunteer projects, willing to co-organize and contribute to them. Details...
