First impressions from Human Rights Traveller

Hello, here are first impressions from Human Rights Traveler workcamp from participants. During seventeen days we visited four cities and three workcamps. Participants themselves developed workshops on human rights and later presented them for foreign volunteers. It was useful inspiring experience for all of us and soon you will have an opportunity to get acquainted with brochure of HRT! Here you can find our experiences, concentrated and filtered, so this may be useful for preparation of next traveling activities.

This workcamp was not just about working – it was rather creating. From almost nothing we gained both knowledge and experience, and managed to start discussions about women and LGBT-peoples rights. I realized that you don’t need more than your own two hands and a bit of motivation to start fighting for the things you believe in.

Because of this workcamp I realized that you can really mean something by letting people think about Human Rights issues. It was interesting that you can start discussions between people of different countries about a specific problem, although sometimes with very different opinions. I learned a lot more about rights of women and homosexuals and how to create and present workshop. After this workcamp I got more the feeling that it is really worth it to make people aware.

Well when I fist arrived at this work camp I was very tired and I was withdrawn for several days. I was quite concerned with the fact that we got temporary hosting in a park, because at that moment I needed a cold cool shower and a bed. Well thanks to our camp leader the smile appeared on my face. She made an amazing “Treasure Hunting” quest through Harkov. But later I got back my sad face and started to think what I can do to make a small change for the volunteers I’ll meet. I really wanted them to think more about Human Rights and the price of those rights.
I am a very fast thinking person and I make decisions very fast. This caused quite many inconveniences for me since many of the volunteers made decisions very slow and the meetings were long and boring. But in this way I learned what patience means. That’s a quite good lesson for me. Later I found out what is it to be on your own since after Kleban-Byk I did the workshop alone. But I managed it and I can say  “thank you”  to our cam leader for this valuable experience. Now I miss my home. I will go soon back to school, back to family, back to Moldova.

Human Rights Traveler Workcamp was the first experience for me. During first part of camp, we collected materials, worked on the topics and prepared workshops. It was very interesting to learn more information about Human Rights education and promote this. Second part of work camp was devoted to conducting workshops and international volunteer workcamp which took place at this time in Ukraine. It was a opportunity for as to promote HR education and get to know different information about different countries.
