Prep-meeting on Human Rights Traveller 2 28 JULY 2006, Kharkiv
On the 28th of July the meeting of the PMT on Human Rights Traveller (HRT) workcamp (WC) was held in Kharkiv.
The participants of the meeting were: Galya Uvarova (camp leader of HRT), Andrey Kurasov (responsible for HRT preparation), and Jasmin Sohner (EVS volunteer experienced in Human Rights education in school). Another camp leader Zlata Bayrachnaya was absent.
The goals of the meeting were focused on:
- Outlining of the program for the HRT
- Detailed planning of first three days of the WC
- Possible division of responsibilities between camp leaders
- Defining the sources of materials for the trainings and study parts, which will be developed during the WC
- The list of potential organizations and institutions, which work in the field of HR for possible meetings during the WC
All the goals of the meeting but one were accomplished successfully. However, it was pointless to discuss the division of responsibilities between camp leaders because Zlata was absent.
After redefining the goals of the project the detailed and at the same time flexible program was outlined. The first three days were planned especially carefully. There were discussed the methods and forms to organize various activities during the first days, defined days of visits and stays in WCs. However, the program was worked out in order to make it flexible according to the desires and plans of volunteers, weather, financial resources, and the program in the WCs, which will be visited.
The technical questions such as accommodation, meals and transportation at the WCs were discussed as well.
Here are the ideas of possible follow-up of the HRT WC that were discussed at the meeting:
- Issuing of publication, brochure with study sessions on HR and about traveling WC
- Outlining similar projects in the cooperation with other partners of YTNF project
- Launching the series of brochures on HR education, which will be issued once per year at the result of HRT WCs
- Manual for organization of HR traveling workcamps
- Implementing or incorporating some ideas to the Peace Tour done by AVI-Moldova or Euroidea in the next year
- EVS volunteers activities at local schools
- Presentations of study sessions and prepared work locally at the place, where the volunteers live
Civil Society actors in the participating countries of YTNF wish to express their solidarity with their compatriots suffering from the Israeli-led and US backed invasion of Gaza and Lebanon. In the same breath, we also condemn attacks of Hezbollah on the Israeli civilian population and call for an immediate ceasefire, so that further losses of innocent civilian lives will abruptly halt and normal people can return to their homes & begin reconstructing their lives.
War & violence are not the answer to conflicts. They only lead to further violence and further grief. Details...

Kharkiv, July 20
This nice sunny day Jasmin and Galyna met in Kharkiv to discuss details of coming Human Rights Traveller workcamp. As for now we have not that much experience in organisation of camps of such a type, it is important to think about all the points beforehand, to make activity as fruitful as possible.
First days of camp will be concentrated on preparation and work on materials, so it will be good to arrange meeting with representatives of local organisations which deal with human rights. Also, there popped an idea to make a presentation of international organisations, e.g. Amnesty International, HR-UN-Tribunal. Details...
