NEW: 2 LTV Projects in a day care center for young disabled people
2 long-term volunteer places are available in the Raduga Center, in Donetsk, Ukraine (for German only!!)
The Raduga Centre is a unique day care centre for children and young adults living with disabilities of the 1st group (disabilities as autism, cerebral palsy, mental disabilities and other, which are ranked in Ukraine as disabilities of 1st group, the most difficult). The Center has been created as a result of a group of activists and committed parents who fought for it in order to give their children the chance of getting not only physically care but also to develop themselves mentally and do some meaningful activities . The Raduga Center is unique because in contrast to other state care centres, which only allow disabled people to live the life of ‘vegetables’, the Raduga Center gives its people the chance to develop their personality and skills. Thus, providing for a future perspective and social inclusion.
The volunteers shall support the local staff and volunteers (mostly parents) in creating interactive and diverse activities for the children and young people, such as handicrafts, celebrating holidays, sport activities etc, visit some of the children at their homes and elaborate on new ideas and methods of work. Three days per week the young people visit the center and the other two days are scheduled for homevisits, to prepare the next days and organise everything which is necessary to realise an interactive life in the Raduga Center.
Last year, the Raduga Center hosted a short-term international volunteer project where the young people of the Raduga Center were brought together with a group of volunteers from all over Europe. In the first week the volunteers helped renovating the center and planed holiday activities for the following week. In the second week then the young people came to their center again after the renovation break and made an imaginary trip around Europe with the help of a self-constructed plane. Everybody had the chance to explore the others’ cultures by drawing national flags, celebrating country specific holidays, making dance performances and singing typical national songs. This year, the short term project shall be continued with a long-term perspective by offering 2 long-term volunteer places in the Center.

In order to celebrate the international children’s day on 1st of June in Artemovsk, also SVIT Ukraine was actively involved in organizing special games for the children in the central park. Our ecological ‘corridor of perception’ was a funny challenge for a lot of children participating in it. With blinded eyes their senses were tested in three kinds of disciplines. Firstly, the children had to walk over different natural materials, such as sand, dried grass or step into water. Then, they had to touch different soils and guess which one it is. Especially, the third discipline was a funny challenge when the children had to smell different spices and tell the correct name.
