Mentor is...
This we have tried to figure out during short training for mentors of EVS volunteers, which was organized in the framework of "Creation of Coordinating Centers on Volunteering" project with support of Zukunftsfonds Berlin. The training had very practical point - new EVS volunteers start their projects in SVIT in October. So together we have tried to figure out, who is mentor and why it is needed for a long-term volunteer, as European Voluntary Service. What are the tasks and responsibilities of mentor, what is his\her place in the project with the volunteer, and of course special needs and support of EVS volunteers. Due to positive group atmosphere, the conflict exercise did not result in big conflict, and the training ended up with common pizza-eating-evening.

More than 35 participants from Lviv to Lugansk, Kherson to Kyiv met in Kharkiv on October 12th for some strange kind of Oktoberfest - not for beers, but to talk about volunteering. Open space gave opportunity for everyone to talk about volunteering under different sauce - what you prefer more. Some examples of such sauce: environment, activities with children, human rights and combating racism and xenophobia, how I spend my (volunteer) summer, ideas for short-term volunteer workcamps, networking and cooperation.
