This is the time for SVIT to pack backpacks - August is the month to pick fruits of almost a year of preparation work for our volunteer projects. This year we worked hard to organize diverse projects on different topics: environment and work with disabled children, anti-racism, gender and human rights education. We worked with our local partners to plan and set-up the projects, evaluated past experiences, organized trainings for our members, discussed programs and activities, wrote hundreds of emails and made as many phone calls. YTNF has reached its half-way stage - phew! An appropriate time to pause for breath, evaluate what has happened (which is what the Steering Group will do at its upcoming meeting in Ukraine) and hopefully execute a good strategy and decisions for the remaining period. Looking at the world around us, I have been struck in recent months by how little we come across the word "solidarity" in our media anymore. Instead, the focus is almost entirely on individual gain, making private profit & maximising the expolitation of human and natural resources in order to achieve that aim. What is more, governments and multis seem to be working hand-in-hand on this, disguised under the name "globalisation". Details...

AVI-Moldova had the privilege to receive a high-level delegation from the EU during the period 20-23 June 2007. The delegation, composed of the Head of the Youth Division of the EU, Mr Philippe Cova, as well as the responsible person for EVS exchanges, Ms Cecilia Lo Piparo Liljegren, made the field visit in order to evaluate on-going EVS projects via talks with organisers, project hosts and current long-term volunteers. They were also interested to see and investigate the results of YTNF. Details...

Was the catchy title Donetsk, “Lesnaya polyana” hotel, May 19-20 – place and date 22 young, fresh from overnight travel participants, including the prep-team who slept 2 hours to prepare the program This is what we have started with. We ended with creating great group atmosphere, where people felt safe and comfortable, focused for learning, open to different games, simulations and exercises. We covered all the topics planned, discussed future steps and got a lot of energy, ideas and inspiration to continue with volunteer work and international volunteer projects. We got new leaders enthusiastic about volunteer projects, willing to co-organize and contribute to them. Details...

There's no doubt that the Peer Education seminar that took place in Ulan-Ude in the beggining of May was really good. We [the participants] received a lot of useable and useful information on peer education methods and tested some of them ourselves:) What I really liked was that we got the knowledge and I dare say skills to work with peers that we'll be able use in very close future. As a part of the national week of voluntary work, on Thursday, 26th April 2007, a group of AVI volunteers went to the refugee charity center from Chisinau, Buiucani district, to do a work shop on Moldovan culture and cultural differences. The volunteers running the workshop were: Cezar Cernei, Alina Secrieru, Carolina Secrieru and Daniel Nylin Nilsson. Every Thursday in the charity center is dedicated to the presentation of national cultures. Often this will be the culture of the refugees home countries, but on this day AVI volunteers took on the task to present Moldovan culture. First the volunteers visited the management of the center, and were informed about the center’s work and the situation of refugees in Moldova in general. Details...
