“Baikal for all!” is a voluntary service project for promoting social inclusion of disadvantaged young people (orphans & physically disabled) & aims to demonstrate ways of overcoming the isolation of orphans and disabled in Russia and promote their social integration which “Siberian Creative Group” hopes can become a future model for Buryatia and whole Russia. The project will take place near the village of Tankhoy on the shores of Lake Baikal from 16th July to 5th August 2011 and is supported financially by youth directorate of the Council of Europe. As one contribution to the 2011 International Year of Volunteering SCI branches & partners will be continuing the No More War Action that began already last year. Throughout the world a series of NMW international work & study camps are being scheduled to take place in the summer months, enabling volunteers of all ages, backgrounds, religions and colour to discuss together what civil society activists can do to prevent wars & violence and solve conflicts by peaceful means. They will equally be contributing to the no more war effort by supporting grassroot peace groups who are working to solve local problems on an everyday basis. Details...

PART I: THE STORY
Dear friends,
On 30 June I was detained, when I had arrived to Tbilisi Airport.
On 3rd of July I had a trial in a court, and in the everything after
accusation and paying the fine 2000 Lari (approximately - 1200
dollars) I was released. Sunday morning I arrived to Minsk. Safe and
happy, but with the previous conviction by criminal article.
But let's start from the beginning and let's follow the chronology of
the event:

In August 2009 for the second time a group of international SCI volunteers is coming to Chernivtsi to work on historic Jewish cemetery, one of the biggest preserved historic cemeteries in Central and Eastern Europe. During two weeks in August, 18 volunteers from 11 different countries will work on the cemetery, removing the bushes and cleaning the tomb-stones of creeping wines. From 7th-30th August SCI Germany will be organising a German-Russian summer school on the subject of climate change. Topics to be discussed include, among others:
- what are the causes and affects of climate change?
- what can I, as an individual, or my organisation, do, in order to prevent climate change?
- how can I, or my organisation, influence political decision-makers in this field?
The first week of the school will be devoted to an inter-active series of workshops, keynote lectures and project visits, in order to exchange ideas & experiences among participants.
