Welcome to Belarus

Belarus unknown country in the heart of Europe

In the cross-roads of the routes going from West to East and from North to South lays a country called Belarus, country with long, reach and tragic history.
There was no a single war in Eastern Europe that did not pass through Belarus. Advantageous geographical position in most of the cases played crucial and tragic role for Belarus.

Belarus borders on Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia and Ukraine. The territory of Belarus is 207 thousand square kilometers. More than 9.7 million people live on its territory. About 1/5 of the population live in Minsk - the capital of Belarus.

In Belarus there are 2 official state languages: Belarusian and Russian. 123 nationalities live in Belarus, among them: Russians, Poles, Ukrainians, Jews and people of other nationalities. All these people live in good neighbourhood and peace loving their country with reach history and traditions, the country where Catholic and Orthodox churches, a Jewish sinagogue and a Moslem mosque may stand together in one street expressing respect and tolerance to other folks and their cultures…

Minsk – the capital of Belarus - is a beautiful modern city with impressive length and width of streets and avenues lined with green stripes of trees. Minsk nowadays is one of the tidiest cities, famous for its squares, parks and green areas. Minsk is more than 9 centuries old. First time it was mentioned in 1067 under the name of Mensk. At the beginning of the XII century it became an important trade centre of the area and the main city of Minsk principality. Being historically situated on major cross-roads from West to East and from North to South of Eastern Europe, Minsk had to participate, witness and suffer from innumerable battles.

There are very few cities in the world whose fate could be compared with that of Minsk, and whose destiny has been so much predetermined by the brutality of wars. During it long history it was destroyed more than 10 times. The last time – during the second world war. But after having been burned to ashes, Minsk remained alive and rose like Phoenix in the freshness of youth! We invite you to come to discover our country!

And we are sure you will love it as we do!
