Visit to some friends... the homeless dogs from Frumusica

During 2 days, the volunteers of AVI-Moldova had organized a mini-workcamp in a shelter for homeless dogs. The weekend was a great opportunity to be near the dogs, to give them affection and the needed attention, but also an opportunity to rise up the problem of what should be done with these dogs. We have shown that killing the dogs it’s not a solution for getting clear of wild dogs and that such kind of shelters should be more because there are people who really care about the life of a poor animal. It should be mentioned that all the dogs are cleaned, checked medically and the females – sterilized.

The idea has appeared spontaneously. One day, Gheorghe, one of our volunteers, has visited the first shelter for dogs fro Moldova. He was so impressed by the situation of these dogs that he proposed to organize a mini-workcamp, idea which was approved by all of us.

The shelter for dogs it’s situated somewhere near Chisinau, in the village Frumusica. There are at the moment around 50 dogs – from puppies to old dogs. They need help. They need help permanently, they need volunteers who would care about them, would feed them. At the asylum work few persons, who do not manage with all the work it has been done.

So… one by one, the volunteers have chosen a freezing weekend of February, 9-10, and went to the shelter.

Arriving there was quite simple: taking the bus from Chisinau to Frumusica and from there we had to walk around 1 km.

We have arrived to a small house with a gate. When opening the gate, many dogs invaded us, starting to jump at us and welcoming us in their own way  In the only room where people can leave we have found a cat, shy and sweet who has watch over our clothes during the whole day

Very soon we have changed our close, armed with lot of energy and good-mood, we have divided the work: the boys (only two) were going to cut down some branches (the shelter needs wood to have fire and to get warm the dogs) and the girls were going to prepare the food and to clean the hutches. Deal and done it!

After everyone has finished their tasks, all together we have raked the garden, which it’s actually the play and running place for the dogs.

Meantime, outside was getting really cold, so we made the fire in the stove and the dogs where all coming together in order to be warmer for them. The puppies were sleeping all together in a basket, and the new-comers where also searching a place near them. No one wanted to be alone…

… and the freeze of February didn’t scare us… the little eyes of the puppies can convince you to visit them again and again being winter, being summer…
